Marion Lois (McKnight) Cornett dies at 80

Marion Lois (nee McKnight) Cornett, 80, of Valparaiso, formerly of Hobart, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006.

She was born Feb. 5, 1926 at home in Hobart, the daughter of Morris and Mary McKnight, both of whom preceded her in death.

On Oct. 25, 1946, she married Lester Cornett. They had five children, Theresa Hardt, Cathy Cornett, Ron (Theresa) Cornett, Cindy (Terry) Barton, Shirlee (Dave) Reeves; one brother and two sisters, Dale (McKnight, Rosalie (Bob) Wilkins and Norma Jean (Jim) Labadie; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son-in-law, Charles Hardt and a grandson, David Robuck Hardt.

Marion graduated from Hobart High School and during WWII she worked in the Tube Mill at U.S. Steel as a crane operator. She was a lifelong member of Hobart First Church of the Nazarene, which was founded by her grandmother. She had volunteered at Porter Memorial Hospital for over 30 years with the Hospital Guild. Besides being a loving and devoted mother and wife, she was also an excellent seamstress.

Funeral services, Rev. Gerald Walworth officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22 at Hobart First Church of the Nazarene.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso and from 10-11 a.m. Friday at Hobart First Church of the Nazarene. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the VNA of Porter County or Hobart First Church of the Nazarene.
