Marie Alma Elliott dies at 93

Marie Alma Elliott, 93, of South Hiram, Maine, passed away Oct. 26, 2006 at the Hospice House in Auburn, Maine. She was 93.

She was born Nov. 7, 1912 in Cyr Plantation, Maine, the daughter of Joseph and Emily Devoe Lajoie.

Her beloved husband of 58 years, Kermit Elliott preceded her in death in March of 2005. They were married Feb. 20, 1947 and owned and operated Apple Acres Farm for several years; after which, Kermit and Marie traveled back and forth to work in Sanford while fixing up an old farm house on the site where their present home now stands.

She is survived by two daughters, Alma McInnis of Cornish and Luella DeWulf of Chesterton; three brothers, Wilfred Lajoie of Brunswick, Russell Lajoie of Calif. and Steve Lajoie of Houlton; three sisters, Julie Tardiff of Calif., Gloria Dumont and Lorraine Spalding, both of Clinton, Maine; 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Marie was preceded in death by her son, Richard McInnis.

Marie was always active in the community as well as her St. Matthew’s Church community. She raised a tremendous amount of money for St. Matthew’s over the years and continued to do so well into her later years. She was devoted to helping others and was very involved with the Red Cross, American Legion and many other local organizations.

Marie and Kermit loved spending time together and especially loved going dancing.

Marie was a devoted mother and always there for her children. She was a loving sister and was always there to help her siblings. The center of her life, besides Kermit, was undoubtedly her grandchildren, and Marie and Kermit were truly loving grandparents. Marie was also a wonderful friend.

Funeral services were at St. Matthew’s Church. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Cornish.
