Karen Ann Gerometta, of Chesterton, passed away at home Sunday, Nov. 19,
2006 after a five year courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 45.
She was born Dec. 30, 1960 in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Norman
Johnson, who preceded her in death, and Margaret “Peggy” (Albers) Johnson
Bales (Ken) of W. Lafayette.
On June 7, 1986 in Bloomington, she married John Sewell Gerometta, who
survives in Chesterton.
She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Adele Gerometta and Rebecca
Louise Gerometta, both at home; a sister, Kim Marie (Jim) Herrington of
Alexandria, La. and nephews, James Jr., William Eric, Robert Preston and
John Alan; a brother, Kurt Alan (Joy) Johnson of Aurora, Colo. and nephews,
Matthew and Jacob and niece, Jasmine; sister, Kris Lynn (Max) Bales of
Blacksburg, Va. and nephew, Joel and nieces Jacqueline and Rachel; a sister,
Kelly Sue Johnson of Bloomington and step-sister, Joni Bales of Chicago.
A mother-in-law, Marjorie Gerometta of Valparaiso; brother-in-law, Robert
(Marta) Gerometta of LaPorte; sister-in-law, Kathy Bloom of Lubbock, Texas
and many nieces and nephews.
Karen was a Registered Nurse and had worked as an RN in Oncology and
Intensive Care in Indianapolis and Texas. She was a member of St. Francis
Episcopal Church, where she was actively involved. Karen received her B.A.
in Nursing in 1983 from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, graduating Cum
Laude. She received an MBA in Health Organization Management in 1992 at
Texas Tech University. She worked as an RN in Epidemiology in Muncie. She
played clarinet and saxophone and piano. She did beautiful needlework,
crochet and needle point.
She was involved in 4-H and scrapbooking and photography. She home schooled
her two girls for four years. She loved children and her family and pets.
She also loved to travel with her family.
A memorial service, Fr. Jack Meyer officiating, will be at 2 p.m., Saturday,
Nov. 25 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Cremation
was at Heritage Crematory, Portage.
Visitation with family will be from 11 a.m. until time of service at 2 p.m.
at the funeral home.
