John J. Miller, Sr. dies at 75

John J. Miller, Sr., 75, New Buffalo, MI, died Dec. 1, 2006 at 3:43 am in VNA Hospice Center, Valparaiso.

John J. Miller, Sr. was born Nov. 11, 1931 in LaPorte, son of the late Stephen and Armina (Reese) Miller.

On May 17, 1952, in New Buffalo, Mich., He married Lois Hildebrand, who preceded him on June 3, 1991.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathryn Lyda of Chesterton, Kari Miller of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sons, Steven Miller of Cherry Hill, N.J., John J. Miller, Jr. of Kennewick, Wash. and granddaughter, Heather Lyda and grandson, Christopher Lyda, both of Chesterton.

He retired after 33 years as a Master Craftsman for Joy Mfg., Michigan City, and also was the New Buffalo Township liquor inspector for 25 years.

He served with the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of VFW Post 2536, John Franklin Miller American Legion Post 37, St. Joseph Young Men's Society, and the FOP Dunes Lodge 75.

The VFW Post 2536 and the John Franklin Miller American Legion Post 37 will conduct a Memorial Service Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City. Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 till 8 p.m. in the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel. Cremation will take place.
