Dr. William Underwood dies at 77

Dr. William T. Underwood, of Chesterton, passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006 at his residence. He was 77.

He was born Sept. 3, 1929 in Kokomo, the son of Theodore and Ann (Hurstel) Underwood, both of whom preceded him in death.

On Dec. 27, 1958 in Indianapolis, he married Helen Charlene Clements, who preceded him in death, Oct. 1, 1993.

He is survived by four sons, W. Scott (Trevia) Underwood of North Judson, Michael J. Underwood of Valparaiso, J. Mark (Melynda) Underwood of Chesterton and Nicholas J. (Marcie) Underwood of Knox; a daughter, Tricia A. (Lance) Hodge of Chesterton, 13 grandchildren, Melissa, Andy, Anna, Steven, Emily, Steven, Ashley, Samantha, Holli, Lily, Maize, Haydon and Elizabeth and nine great-grandchildren.

Dr. Underwood was a self-employed optometrist. He was a graduate of the Indiana University School of Optometry. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Cremation will be at Heritage Crematory, Portage.

Memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice of Porter County or to the American Cancer Society.
