David J. Kostell dies at 68

David J. Kostell, 68, of Chesterton died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006 at VNA Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso.

He was born Nov. 2, 1938 in Gary, the son of the late John and Sue (Chicos) Kostell. His mother preceded him in death on Oct. 6, 2006.

On April 1, 1967 he married Ceres Ann (Svetanoff) at St. Mark Church in Gary.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, David J. (Janet) Kostell of Michigan City and Steven E. (Stacey) Kostell of Urbana, Ill. and a daughter Kathaleen S. (Craig) Kelle of Newburgh, Ind. His grandchildren are Kyle and Keely Kostell and Alexis and Ethan Kelle. He is also survived by a brother, Richard D. Kostell of Valparaiso and a sister, Patricia (Ben) Haynes of Merrillville; sister-in-law, Cathy Basham (Ming Tang) of New York, NY; brothers-in-law, Edward (Dianne) Svetanoff of Lansdale, Pa., Michael J (Maryann) Svetanoff of Valparaiso, Richard (Joann) Svetanoff of Valparaiso, A.J. (Vickie) Svetanoff, Venice, Fla., Brian (Jeannine) Svetanoff of Valparaiso and Pete (Clare) Svetanoff of Elkhart; also many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.

Kostell graduated from Lew Wallace High School in Gary and attended Purdue University- Calumet. He received his EET degree from Valparaiso Technical Institute. He retired after 41 years of service from US Steel in Gary, where he was an Electronic Repairman. He was a member of USW Local 1066 and St. Patrick Church, Chesterton.

His hobbies included camping, fishing, watching football, especially the Bears and Purdue, riding his bike and spending time with his grandchildren.

Funeral Mass, con-celebrants Monsignor Charle Bois and Fr. James Meade officiating, will be at 11 a.m. St. Patrick Catholic church, 638 N. Calumet Rd. Interment will be at St. Patrick Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. with a Wake service at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.

Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Church Building Fund, VNA Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso or American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, Rochester, Minn.
