Anna M. Gannon dies at 83

Anna M. Gannon, of Valparaiso, passed away Dec. 9, 2006 at the VNA Hospice Center, Valparaiso. She was 83.

She was born Jan. 2, 1923 in Michigan City, the daughter of Frank and Louise Holzapfel, both of whom preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Bernard F. Gannon, Sr. of Valparaiso.

She is also survived by children, Lawrence Gannon of St. Paul, Minn., Rita (James) Matthys of Westville, Michael (Bernice) Gannon of Freemont, Lucy Cress of Freemont, Bernard (Carolyn Wright) Gannon Jr. of Kouts, Joan (Richard) Evans of Springfield, Mo. Debbie (Kevin) Major of Hobart; 24 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; brothers, Simon (Mildred) Holzapfel of Tenn., Frank (Marilyn) Holzapfel of Kouts, Robert Holzapfel of LaPorte; sisters, Catherine (Harold) McGinley of Valparaiso, Rosie (William) Beahler of Union Mills, Barbara Holzapfel of Phoenix, Ariz. and Regina (Bernard) Higgins of New Carlisle.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Hannon and a brother-in-law, David Hannon.

Anna was a resident of Valparaiso for 80 years and member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Altar Rosary Society and Auxiliary to the Knights of Columbus. She retired from Hannon’s Drive-in after working for 20 years. She enjoyed playing games, eating jellybeans, traveling and cooking for her family. Family reunions were her favorite time. Her life was devoted to her husband and family.

A funeral mass, Fr. Joseph Pawlowski, presiding and Msgr. John J. Charlebois, Concelebrant, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12 with visitation starting at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church (1855 Harrison Blvd., Valparaiso). Interment will be at St. Paul Cemetery.

Friends may call today, from 4-9 p.m. with a Wake Service at 5 p.m. and a family Rosary at 8 p.m. at the Dykes Funeral Home (2305 N. Campbell St., Valparaiso).

Memorials may be sent to VNA Hospice Center.
