Alfreda 'Freda' Ric dies at 83

Alfreda “Freda” Rice, formerly of Chesterton, died about 2:10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006 at Crestview Nursing Home, Vincennes. She was 83.

She was born Feb. 12, 1923 in Knox County, the daughter of Ernie and Ethel Ivers Gremore.

In Aug. 1942, she married Theral “Bud” Rice, who preceded her in death Sept. 1, 1985.

Survivors include three brothers, Steve Gremore of Vincennes, Paul Gremore of Cloverdale and Wayne Gremore of White Pigeon, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Winnie (Harold) Grove of Lawrenceville, Ill.

Freda and her husband Bud formerly owned and operated Five Gables Antique Shop on the corner of Porter Ave. and Calumet Rd. She was a member of Beal Pentecostal Church in Vincennes and a member of the “Ladybugs” in Chesterton.

Freda and Bud lived next to Mt. Baldy and in Furnessville while they ran their antique shop. After Bud passed away, Freda worked for other antique shops in LaPorte and Chesterton. Locally she worked at Antiques 101 and Yesterday’s Treasures.

The funeral was Oct. 14 at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home, Vincennes. Interment was at Zion Church Cemetery, Lawrenceville, Ill.
