Thorsten A. 'Thor' Swenson dies at 100

Thorsten A. “Thor” Swenson, of Chesterton, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2005 at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus, Valparaiso. He was 100.

He was born Feb. 23, 1905 in South Chicago, Ill., the son of Carl and Bertha (Hertig) Swenson, both of whom preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by his wives: wife of 48 years Linnea, Leota and Lillian and a son, Paul Swenson.

He is survived by a son Donald (Judy) Swenson of Anaheim, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Catherine Swenson of Chesterton; grandchildren, Peter, Emily, Mark and Paula, Ellen, Ruth, Frank, John, Wesley, Dorothy and William; 10 great-grandchildren and a brother, David Swenson of Vancouver, Wash.

Thor moved to Chesterton when he was 14 years old and moved back to Chicago and began working in the printing business. He retired from the Post-Tribune in Gary. He was very active in Liberty Bible Church, Chesterton, and later in his life attended the First United Methodist Church, Chesterton.

Funeral services, Pastor Terry C. Rhine officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6 at First United Methodist Church, 434 S. 2nd St., Chesterton. Interment will be Friday morning at Oak Hill Cemetery, Chicago.

The family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton.
