Sylvia Shuger, 91, of Beverly Shores, died peacefully, surrounded by her
three children and granddaughter Monday, Oct. 3, 2005 at LaPorte Hospital in
LaPorte.
She was born April 10, 1914 in Chicago, the daughter of Morris and Mildred
Shapiro, both of whom preceded her in death.
On June 24, 1942, she married Dr. Harry Shuger, who preceded her in death
Aug. 26, 1982.
She is survived by three children, Farel (Chris Horn) Krueger of LaPorte;
Sandra (Charles W.) Shuger Griffin, Covert, Mich. and Marc (Jane) Shuger of
Long Beach, Ind. and granddaughter, Lauren (Andrew) Carter of Ft. Riley,
Kan. and her special cat, Jamie.
She was also preceded in death by sisters, Malvina Rice, Shirley Krauss and
a brother, Bernard Michael Shapiro.
Sylvia moved to Beverly Shores from Chicago in 1958 and actively
participated in many community activities including the Dunes Women’s Club,
Beverly Shores School PTC and the Sinai Sisterhood. She was a devoted wife
and mother.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 at Westlawn Cemetery,
Chicago.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Carlisle Funeral Home, 613
Washington St., Michigan City.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of donor’s choice,
the Independent Cat Society, or LaPorte hospital Foundation, LaPorte.
