Larry G. Meece dies at 52

Larry G. Meece, of Michigan City, died Tuesday, Sept. 27 at LaPorte Hospital, after a brief illness. He was 52.

He was born March 4, 1953 in Michigan City, the son of James E. and Martha Jane (Hildreth) Meece, both of whom preceded him in death.

On July 23, 1994, he married Janet Crane, who survives in Michigan City.

He is also survived by children, John Mark of Alamonte Springs, Fla., Chris (Wendy) Mark of Michigan City, Shannon Shaffer, Jacksonville, Fla., Erin Mark (Jerome) Stokes of San Angelo, Texas, Goodfellow AFB; a grandson, Michael Mark of Michigan City; Sisters, Mary (Jack) Zahrndt of Michigan City, Helen Meece of Westville and Martha Bollinger of Hope, Kan.; brothers, Terry (Carmelina) Meece of Chesterton, Albert (Terri) Meece of Michigan City, Charles (Mary) Meece of Salina, Kan., Donald (Cara) Meece of Hope, Kan. and Jerry Meece of Michigan city; sisters, Shirley (Virgel) Lockwood of Harrington, Kan., Joanie (James) Sliwa of Tampa, Fla., Margie (Don) Pickens of Abiline, Kan., Voila Marie (Jerry) Brown of Michigan City; an uncle, Dan (Tina) Hildreth of Olympia, Wash. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and William Meece.

Mr. Meece was employed for 10 years with the LaPorte County Highway Department. He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a Vietnam Veteran achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of Faith City Assembly of God and the American Legion Skwiat Post #451.

Funeral services, Pastor William Barnes officiating, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at Faith City Assembly of God. Cremation is scheduled.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sept. 30 at Carlisle Funeral Home with memorial service by Skwiat Post #451 at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
