Joyce A. Scott dies at 57

Joyce A. Scott, 57, of Independence, Iowa., died Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, following a short illness.

She was born Nov. 3, 1948 in Farmington, Mo., the daughter of Elijah Hiawatha and Corinne Beatrice (Ballard) Helm.

On April 17, 1987 in Columbia, Mo., she married David William Scott, who survives.

She is also survived by two sons, Lonnie (Teresa) Barton Jr. of Scott City, Mo. and Daniel Barton of Bismark, Mo.; five daughters, Carol Anderson of Chesterton, Stephanie Barton of Columbia, Mo., Brenda (Jack) Clothier of Springville, Iowa, Patricia (Richard) Dumire of Waterloo, Iowa and Terresa (Travis) Woodward of Oelwein, Iowa; 12 grandchildren including Sean and Andrew Anderson of Chesterton and one great-grandchild and two sisters, Helen Smith of Leadwood, Mo. and Carol Baker of Morton, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.

Joyce worked at several jobs, but primarily concentrated on her occupation as homemaker and mother.

Services were Friday, Dec. 9 at White Funeral Home in Independence. Interment was at Wilson Cemetery in Independence.
