Glen E. Hyndman dies at 69

Glen E. Hyndman, of Chesterton, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2005 at V.N.A. Hospice Center, Valparaiso. He was 69.

He was born March 16, 1936 in Gary, the third child of Reginald E. and Annie (Ellis) Hyndman, both of whom preceded him in death.

On June 17, 1961 at Christ Episcopal Church in Gary, he married Penelope “Penny” Wolfe, who survives in Chesterton.

He is also survived by three daughters, Elaine (Douglas) Cawby of Chesterton, Diane (Robert) Kammerer of Valparaiso and Sandra (Michael) Eggers of Fishers; a brother, Royce (Norma) Hyndman of Merrillville and Fort Meyers Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Kristin and Tyler Cawby, Alec, Lauren and Madisen Kammerer, Sydney, Anthony and Luke Eggers; brothers in law, Edward Fisher of Albuquerque, N.M. and Geoffrey Wolfe of Chesterton.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas William Hyndman and a sister, Margaret Helen Fisher.

Glen was a retired school teacher for Portage Twp. Schools. He was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church, where he was very active and served as senior warden, vestry member and usher. He was a member of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Indiana Council; a member of the Chesterton Lions Club, where he served as treasurer and member of the board of directors for years. He was also the Director of U.S. Steel’s Good Fellow Youth Camps in the 1960s and 70s. He was a teacher in Peru, Gary and Portage, where he retired in 1996 after 38 years. He was a Ball State University graduate receiving his bachelor’s degree in 1958 and master’s in 1961.

A funeral service, Father John Meyer and David Hyndman officiating, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8 at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 237 E. CR 1200N, Chesterton. Cremation will be at Heritage Crematory, Portage with interment of ashes at Chesterton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Monday at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.

Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society or to St. Francis Episcopal Church or to the V.N.A. Horton Hospice Center.
