A civic leader and athlete, Edward Earl Deuberry Sr., of Chesterton, died
Friday, Nov. 4, 2005 peacefully at home surrounded by his wife of nearly 61
years and their 10 children. He was 85.
He was born Jan. 11, 1920 in Brunswick, the son of John Martin and Lulu (Bothel)
Deuberry, both of whom preceded him in death.
He was married to Ruth Youngmark, who survives in Chesterton.
He is also survived by 10 children, Carole (Jim) Boatwright of Kouts, Ruth
(Al) Gribble of Black Mountain, N.C., Edward (April) Deuberry of
Noblesville, John Deuberry of Hardy, Ark., Bette (Al) Kamaski of Chesterton,
Bob (Jeanna) Deuberry of Noblesville, Donna (Larry) Rhoda of Boone Grove,
Jeff (Mary) Deuberry of Chesterton, Judy (Deuberry) Arzola of Valparaiso,
Jim Deuberry of Beverly Shores, and loved like a son, Scott Fuller of
Chesterton; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces
and nephews.
He is also survived by sister-in-law Gerry Deuberry and was preceded by two
sisters and three brothers.
Edward was retired from Pipefitters local #597. He as a WWII veteran having
served in the U.S. Navy (Seabees). He was the Co-founder and Coach of the
Duneland Wrestling Club and was inducted in the Indiana Wrestling Hall of
Fame in 1990. He coached wrestling at the Middle Schools in Chesterton for
many years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #379 and cofounder of
the Chesterton DeMolay. He was a Boy Scout Leader for 34 years. He was a
Charter member and active with New Life Wesleyan Church in Chesterton.
A funeral service, Rev. Mike Cloud officiating, will be at 11 a.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 9 at New Life Wesleyan Church, 75 E. CR 1100N, Chesterton.
Interment will be at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville.
Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home,
517 Broadway, Chesterton.
