Catherine 'Cathy' Lorenz dies at 71

Catherine “Cathy” Lorenz, of Chesterton, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005 at Porter Valparaiso Campus Emergency Department. She was 71.

She was born June 6, 1934 in Wells County, N.D., the daughter of George A. and Ruth (Peterson) Stewart, both of whom preceded her in death.

On July 1, 1954 in Porter, she married Leslie H. “Les” Lorenz, who survives in Chesterton.

She is also survived by two sons, Donald S. Lorenz of Iowa and Dennis S. (Michele) Lorenz of Jackson Twp.; a daughter, Ruth Ann Lorenz (Patrick Byrd) of Portage; a brother, Charles Stewart of N.D.; two sisters, Georgia (Richard) Proper of Sun City, Ariz. and Marilyn (Lyman) Lindelien of Phoenix, Ariz. and grandchildren, Zachary Scott Lorenz and Kristin and Matthew Lorenz.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Alfred Stewart.

Cathy was a life long resident. She was employed as a sales associate for Pioneer Lumber. She had also worked at Tonner Brothers and Morgan Lumber in Chesterton and for 1st National Bank in Michigan City and City Service Oil Company in Ohio.

A memorial service, Rev. James Mills officiating, will be at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home. Cremation will be at Heritage Crematory, Portage.

Visitation with the family will be Friday from 4 p.m. until time of service at 6 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.

Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association or to the Asthma Association.
