Carla Jean Jovanovich (nee Zehner) dies at 48

Carla Jean Jovanovich “nee Zehner” of Chesterton, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005 at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus, Valparaiso. She was 48.

She was born July 19, 1957 in Valparaiso, the daughter of the late John Zehner and Alison Griffin Mason, who survives in Chesterton. She was also preceded in death by step-father, Harold Thomas Mason.

In 2004 she married Eli Jovanovich Sr., who survives in Chesterton.

She is also survived by a son, John Nowka III of Chesterton; a daughter, Shannon Highsmith of Chesterton; a sister, Becky (Bill) DeWald of Louisville, Texas; two brothers, “Jay” John (Carol) Zehner of Portage and Curt (Myrtle) Zehner of Burns Harbor and a grandson, Tyler Richart of Chesterton.

Carla was a member of the Oasis Community Center. She was a Chesterton High School graduate Class of 1975. She had worked at Bethlehem Credit Union and the Trump and Blue Chip Casinos.

A funeral service, Pastor Phil Myers officiating, will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Cremation will follow services at Heritage Crematory, Portage.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m. Thursday at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home.
