Arnelda Ruge dies at 87 Arnelda Ruge

Arnelda Ruge, of Liberty Twp., died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005 at Whispering Pines Health Care Center, Valparaiso. She was 87.

She was born Dec. 28, 1917 in Michigan City, the daughter of William and Florence (Schlaak) Cooney, both of whom preceded her in death.

On Nov. 11, 1948 in Michigan City, she married William C. Ruge, who preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 2004.

She is survived by two sons, Bruce Ruge (Cheryl Van Rosendale) of Valparaiso and Thomas (Janet) Ruge of Liberty Twp.; a daughter, Sally Jo (Jack) Gleason of Decatur, Mich.; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Cooney of Michigan City; grandchildren, Mike and Steven Gleason, Jonathan and Jason Ruge, Jessica (Mike) Siecinski, Heather Gaylord, Megan Nazarath, Joshua and Daniel Ruge and 12 great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Ann McMeans and a brother, Eldon W. Cooney.

She was a home maker and member of Liberty Bible Church. She was a member of Liberty Home Economics Club and the Christian Women’s Club. Arnelda was also a member of the Mink Lake Ladies Golf League and the Wednesday Nite Jack & Jill Bowling League.

Funeral services, Rev. Ken Long officiating, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Foundation or to the V.N.A. Hospice of Porter County.
