Alice Jean Wood dies at 75

Alice Jean Wood, of Michigan City, died at 4 a.m., Monday, Nov. 14, 2005 at St. Anthony Memorial Health Care Center. She was 75.

She was born Feb. 28, 1930 in Sylacauga, Ala., the daughter of Albert and Martha (Powell) McDougal, both of whom are deceased.

She was married to Howard H. Wood, who preceded her in death Oct. 17, 1984.

She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Hurley and Debbie Weddle, both of Michigan City and a son, Doyle R. (Jacquline) Wood of Chesterton; six grandchildren, Mark (Shawna) Wood, Scott (Rebekah) Wood, Luke Wood, Jessica Weddle, Casey Weddle and Rhonda Hurley; nine great-grandchildren, Alicia, Olivia, Drake, Trent, Justice, Monique, Martell, Marcus and Julius; three sisters, Joyce (Don) Gardner of Texas, Ann Jaeger of Michigan City and Nell (Jim) Phillipe of Portage and three brothers, Alton (Faye) McDougal of Shreeveport, La., Benny (June) McDougal and Harold McDougal of Chesterton.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Ranceford McDougal.

Mrs. Wood was a member of the First Baptist Church and formerly involved with the homeless shelter. She enjoyed working in her garden and yard and walking the beach.

Funeral services, Rev. Kevin D. Patterson of First Baptist Church officiating, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington St., Michigan City. Interment will be at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service Friday at Carlisle Funeral Home.
