Walter C. Medley dies at 73

Walter C. Medley, of Chesterton, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004 at Porter Hospital Valparaiso Campus. He was 73.

He was born Aug. 17, 1931 in Dyersburg, Tenn., the son of Charles W. and Delie (Gordon) Medley, both of whom preceded him in death.

On Aug. 14, 1954 in Corinth, Miss., he married Virginia Christine Dykes, who survives in Chesterton.

He is also survived by a son, Michael (Terry) Medley of Porter; a daughter, Pamela Robertson of Michigan City; two brothers, Clyde Medley of Dyersburg, Tenn., Thomas (Erlene) Medley of Portage; two sisters, Willie Bea Vormittag of Trimbel, Tenn. and Ollie (Bud) Brock of Dyersburg, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Brandon and Alecia Medley and Tiffany Robertson and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother Bobbie Lee and a sister, Ludie Pearl Henderson.

He was retired in 1996 from U.S. Steel after 42 years. He was a member of First Christian Church, Porter V.F.W. Post 2511 and the American Legion Chesterton Post 170. He liked to fish and use his metal detector.

A funeral service, Pastor Scott Morris officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home. Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery, Chesterton.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.

Memorials may be made to the Porter County Cancer Society, 1009 Calumet Ave., Valparaiso.
