Robert W. Snelling, Sr dies at 64

Robert W. Snelling Sr., 64, of Portage, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004 in Valparaiso.

He was born on April 11, 1940 in Dearborn County, Ind. to Forrest Lane Snelling and Edith Lorretta Wolfe, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Snelling of Portage; daughters, Keri (Ron) Carter of Portage, Kim Spak of Portage and Tamara (John) Coyne of Chesterton; sons, Robert (Lynn) Snelling Jr. of Midlothian, Texas and Timothy (Stacey) Snelling of Greenfield; 10 grandchildren, Jason, Josh, Vanessa, Nick, Tony, Olivia, Adam, Alyssa, Ryan and Craig and one great-grandson, Logan.

He was also preceded in death by a nephew, Army Staff Sergeant Ronald Richardson.

He was a long standing 40 year member of Local 1005 Carpenter’s Union and a member of the American Legion Post 260.

Funeral services, Pastor Randall N. Forsythe officiating, will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 30 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage. Cremation will follow at Heritage Crematory, Portage.

Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. Thursday at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel.
