Raymond Anderson dies at 81

Raymond E. “Doc” Anderson, died in Valparaiso on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004 at the age of 81.

He is survived by his daughter, Carol (Dan) Kattalia of Valparaiso; sons, Raymond (Jan) Anderson of Parker, Colo., Mark (Sherry) Anderson of Parma, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Kathryn, Samantha and Jennifer Kattalia, Elizabeth, Kimberly, Ben and Sam Anderson and his dear friend, Lois Christensen.

Dr. Anderson trained at Northwestern University Medical School and practiced in Chicago and Rockford, Ill. before moving to LaGrande, Ore., in 1980 where he continued to practice until his retirement. He was certified by the American Board of Surgery, was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Central Surgical Association, the Western Surgical Association and while in Illinois, a member of the Chicago Surgical Society, the Midwest Surgical Association and the Illinois Surgical Society. He was an associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Illinois School of Medicine.

He was an avid trapshooter and a member of the LaGrande Gun Club. His hobbies also included fly fishing and fly tying and his accomplishments as an amateur radio operator earned him a number of awards. During his career he was the author of over fifty publications relating to the science and practice of surgery.

Following cremation at Angelcrest Crematory at Moeller Funeral Home, a private memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Valparaiso. He will be interred next to his wife of 49 years, Joyce, who preceded him in death in 1997, in Grandview Cemetery, LaGrande, Ore.

Memorials may be made to the VNA Horton Hospice Center.
