Norma J. Babcock dies at 75

Former Liberty Twp. Clerk, Norma J. Babcock, of Chesterton, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004 at the V.N.A. Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso. She was 75.

She was born May 19, 1929 in Gary, the daughter of William and Juanita (Cooley) Newcome, both of whom preceded her in death.

On June 8, 1947 in Chesterton, she married Kenneth G. Babcock, who preceded her in death in 1996.

She is survived by two sons, Patrick (Pat) Babcock and Dennis (Debbie) Babcock, both of Chesterton; a daughter, Lindy (Jeff) Wilson of Chesterton; grandchildren, Tammy (Matt) Wilson-Gregg, Jennifer (Chris) Wilson-Crosby, Joshua (Darcy) Babcock, Alicia Babcock, Laura (Scott) Piotrowski-Thompson, Debbie Piotrowski, Joyce Piotrowski, Doug (Erin) Piotrowski and Laura (Mark) Schoening and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, William (Ike) Newcome.

She was a lifelong resident and served as Liberty Twp. Clerk and on the Advisory Board for Liberty Twp. She worked as a deputy recorder and as a legal secretary for Blachly, Tabor, Bozik and Hartman. She had a great like for line dancing and was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of the Women of the Moose for many years and was a supporter of the former NOPAC ambulance service.

A funeral service, Rev. Mike Eddy officiating, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Cremation will follow services at Heritage Crematory, Portage.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.

Memorials may be made to V.N.A. Horton Hospice Center or to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
