Lewis W. 'Rusty' Rhodes dies at 79

Lewis W. “Rusty” Rhodes, of Chesterton, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus, Valparaiso. He was 79.

He was born Oct. 20, 1925 in Danville, Ill., the son of Carroll and Ethel (Talbott) Rhodes, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy M. (Lucas) Rhodes of Chesterton; a step-son, Jerry (Diane) Huddleston of Chesterton; a granddaughter, Julia (Darrin) Meacham of Fishers; a great-granddaughter, Brianna Meacham and great-grandson, Derrick Meacham, both of Fishers; six sisters, Mary Ellen Harvey of Kingman, Frances DiMariano, Barbara Richards of Cincinnati, Ohio, Margaret (Charles) Maxwell, of Moorsville, Mildred Wooten of Waynestown and Sonya Ray of Crawfordsville and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Rusty was a 1943 graduate of Crawfordsville High School and a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Army. He was employed with Fred Stewart Trucking Co. for 38 years as a truck driver. He and his wife moved to Chesterton a year ago from Muncie.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 27 at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton. Pastor Al Marquez officiated.

Interment services will be at 11 a.m. EST Wednesday, Dec. 29 at the Chapel at Elm Ridge Memorial Park, Muncie. (The Chapel is located in the Mausoleum Building at Elm Ridge.)
