Josephine C. “Josie” Gropp, of Chesterton, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004 at Whispering Pines Nursing Home, Valparaiso. She was 76.

She was born March 18, 1928 in Gary, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Grennenger) Moser, both of whom preceded her in death.

On Feb. 15, 1947, in Gary, she married Hubert A. Gropp, who preceded her in death Nov. 2, 1985.

She is survived by a son, Bruce (Linda) Gropp of Chesterton; a brother, Ernest (Phyllis) Moser of Lowell; two sisters, Edith (John) Elsmere of Portage and Emma Schmitt of Chesterton and two grandchildren, Kara (Kurt) Courtney and Joshua Gropp.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Moser and a sister, Mary Bochart.

She was a life long area resident and was employed as Bank Manager for 37 years at Gary National/Gainer/Bank One. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a graduate of Horace Mann High School.

A funeral service, Rev. Lawrence Heeg officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery, Chesterton.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home.
