John Dean Burns dies at 60

John Dean Burns, of Chesterton, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004 at his residence. He was 60.

He is survived by his parents, William Sr. and Marie Burns of Chesterton; children, Patricia Burns of Kansas City, Mo., Sue (Robert) Kubacki of Hobart, Desiree Burns of Chesterton, Cynthia “CJ” (Stevan) Nikolich of Chesterton, Jennifer Burns of Chesterton, John Burns Jr. of Chesterton and Heather (Steve Grugel) Burns of Chesterton; brothers, William (Linda) Burns Jr. of Hobart, Robert (Jan) Burns of Appleton, Wis., Jim Burns of Chesterton and Tim (Laura) Burns of Munster; grandchildren, Brandi (Clint) Hood, Jonathon Kenworthy, Justin Kubacki, Patrick Burns, Tyler Grugel; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a lifelong area resident. He was a 1963 graduate of Lew Wallace High School in Gary and was retired from National Steel after 40 years of employment, where he worked as a purchasing agent. He was a longtime Cubs fan and will be remembered by his family as a beloved son, devoted father and loving grandfather.

Memorial services, Rev. John R. Barley officiating, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10 at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave. Cremation will follow with Calvary Cemetery and Crematory.

Memorial visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, Portage.
