Clifford O. Holt Sr dies at 69

Former Chesterton businessman, Clifford O. Holt, Sr., of Porter, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004 at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus. He was 69.

He was born Sept. 20, 1935 in Valparaiso, the son of Benard Owen and Evelyn (Erickson) Holt, both of whom preceded him in death.

On May 7, 1971 in Portage, he married Jill Smith, who survives in Porter.

He is also survived by three sons, Clifford Jr. (Sandy) Holt of Rensselaer, Rodney (Debi) Holt of Chesterton and Richard (Theresa) Holt of Chesterton; two daughters, Christina Holt of Portage and Teresa (Mark Rose) Holt of Chesterton; 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth (Jackie) Holt of Fairfield, Calif., Conrad (Debbie) Holt of Kankakee, Ill. and Daniel (Genna) Holt of Doniphan, Mo.; four sisters, Debbie (Les) Gabel of Valparaiso, Phyllis (Jim) Brasser of Doniphan, Mo., Linda Goddard of Griffith and Sandy (Joe) Kettwig of Doniphan.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Victor Holt.

Cliff was a member of Calumet Masonic Lodge #379 F&AM, Chesterton, Orak Shrine of Michigan City, Scottish Rite Consistery of South Bend. He was raised to Master Mason May 26, 1960 at McClelland Lodge #357 Hobart. He was a member of Chesterton Moose Lodge #1623. He was a former Courier for NorthPort Messenger Service. He was previous owner of Holt’s Coach Lite Inn, Chesterton, a former School Bus Driver for the Duneland School Corp. and had been a Realtor with Century 21 in Chesterton. He also was a former member of the Duneland Chamber of Commerce.

He was a supervisor at U.S. Steel, general foreman for railroad transportation with 33 years of service.

A Masonic service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13 by the Calumet Masonic Lodge #379 at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton. Cremation will precede the service at the Calvary Crematory, Portage.

The Family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 13 from noon until the time of service.

Memorials may be given to Shriners Children’s Hospital.
