Carl G. Samuelson of Lake Station died Sunday, April 4, 2004 at his home. He
was 66.
Born in Gary on April 4, 1938, he was the son of Carl L. Samuelson and Helen
Davis, both of whom preceded him in death. On April 6, 1996 in Hobart, he
married Katherine Everett, who survives in Lake Station.
Also surviving are son Jon Cooros (wife Linda) of Portage; stepson Paul
Gurband (Stefanie) of LaPorte; daughters Laura Dull (husband Terry) of
Valparaiso and Kimberly Werner (George) of Westville; stepdaughters Cindi
O’Connor (Kirk) of Portage and Beth Gurband of Mill Creek, Ind.; sisters
Audrey Arnold (Donald), Judy Freeze (Carl) and Suzanne Clemens (Paul), all
of Chesterton; stepmother Evelyn Mae Samuelson of Porter; former wife Sandy
Samuelson of Valparaiso; grandchildren Brett and Courtney Dull and Tony
Werner; and stepgrandchildren Nathan and Jessica Kneifel, Paula Gurband, and
Sannon Dargewichb (Ryan).
A lifelong area resident, he was an operating engineer for Local 150. He
retired on Jan. 1 of this year after 46 years of service. He was a member of
Augsburg Lutheran Church, the International Union of Operating Engineers
Local 150, a lifetime member of the Isaac Walton League, the Porter Lodge
No. 137 F.&A.M., the Order of the Eastern Star Hobart Chapter 314, Royal
Arch Masons Valparaiso Council Chalpter No. 79. He was a 1956 Chesterton
High School graduate. He received his 45-year award from Union Local 150.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 7 at 11 a.m. at the Edmonds & Evans
Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, with the Rev. Arthur Wilderson
officiating. Cremation will follow at Heritage Crematory in Portage.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 until 8 p.m., with a Masonic service at 7
p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
