Michael J. Harrigan dies at 75

Michael J. Harrigan, of Chesterton, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003. He was 75.

He was born July 15, 1928 in the Indiana Harbor section of East Chicago, Ind., the son of Michael J. and Mary (Bodnar) Harrigan, who preceded him in death.

On February 16, 1980 at St. Patrick Church, Chesterton, he married Beverly J. Olson, who survives in Chesterton.

He is also survived by a sister, Barbara (Amiel) Jones of Leesburg, Fla., 2 nephews, David (Gloria) Harrigan of Valparaiso and William Jones of Chesterton; a niece Janine Jones of Cassopolis, Mich. and father- and mother-in-law Carl and Marge Olson of Chesterton.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Yvonne Schick Harrigan in 1979; a daughter, Stacie Harrigan in 1952 and a brother William E. Harrigan in 1953.

He was a charter member of South Haven Lions Club, former YMCA Board member. He attended Liberty Bible Church, where he served as an usher. A long-time resident of Chesterton, he was a 1946 graduate of Chesterton High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He had been employed at Chesterton State Bank, 1st State Bank of Porter and Northern Indiana Savings and Loan. Most recently he was employed as a life insurance agent with Century Companies of America, Chesterton.

Funeral services, Pastor Bill Jones officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23 at Liberty Bible Church, 824 N. Calumet Ave., Chesterton. Interment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery, Chesterton.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22 at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at Liberty Bible Church.

Memorials may be given to Liberty Bible Church, or Christian Haven Home for Boys, 12501 N. SR 49, Wheatfield, IN 46392.
