Mary Albano dies at 67

Mary (Sposato) Albano of Portage died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003 at the VNA Horton Hospice Center in Valparaiso. She was 67.

Born on Nov. 8, 1936 in East Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Mathew Sposato and Grace Scelta Sposato. On Oct. 1, 1955 in Gary, she married Tom Albano, her husband of 48 years who survives in Portage.

She is survived by sons Tom Jr. Albano (Deanna) of Chesterton and Jim Albano (Deborah) of New Carlisle, Ind.; daughter Joni Harris (Chancy) of Portage; brother Mario Sposato (Margaret) of Crown Point; sister Linda Matthews (Robert) of Westville; grandchildren Tommy, Nicholas, Michael, Emily and Ryan Albano and Matthew and Sarah Harris; and special friend Betty Giannopoulos.

An area resident for 26 years, coming from Gary, she was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Emerson High School in 1955 and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Private services were held. Cremation took place at Heritage Crematory in Portage. Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice of Porter County, 501 Marquette Street, Valparaiso.
