Laverne “Verne” Johnson died October 27, 2003 in Mesquite, Nevada.

Johnson was a Chesterton High School business teacher and basketball and track coach during the 1940s and 1950s.

His wife, Dorothy, a Chesterton native, preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by sister-in-law Lavonne Zaideman.

A memorial service is scheduled Nov. 15 in Sun City, Nevada.
