Joseph Williams, 75, services set

Joseph C. “Jake” Williams, 75, of Chesterton, died Sunday, August 31, 2003 at his home.

Williams was born July 3, 1928, in Samburg, Tennessee, the son of Cody and Loaxie Williams, both of whom preceded him in death.

On Sept. 25, 1951, in Crown Point, Ind., he married Monita Pugh, who survives in Chesterton.

He is also survived by sons Billy (Anna) Scott, of Valparaiso; Thomas (Thelma) Scott and Jerry (Loretta) Scott, both of Chesterton and daughters Hazel (Odell) Russell, of Hickman, Kentucky; Marge (Jerry) Troke and Katie (Ed) Gardner, of Valparaiso and Sallie Brown of Chesterton, and sister, Hester Bennett of Hornbeak, Tenn; as well as numerous relatives and friends.

His grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren total 90.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin H. Williams; son-in-law Dennis Brown and grandchildren J.D. Luck, Michael Scott and Jonathon Leath.

He was an area resident since 1951, working as a welder and U.A.W. union representative at the Budd Company. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Porter V.F.W. Post 2511 and was an avid bowler.

Services are set for Thursday, Sept. 4, at 10 a.m., with Pastor Marj Kooy officiating, at Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway in Chesterton. Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to charities of the donor’s choice.
