Jamie Benedict Veiner dies at 62

Jamie Benedict Veiner, 62, of Hobart, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003 at VNA Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso.

He was born Feb. 20, 1941 in Oakman, Ala., the son of Benedict and Betty (Smith) Veiner, who survive in Palatka, Fla.

On July 1, 1975 in Portage, he married Maretta Harvey, who survives in Hobart.

He is also survived by a son, James Michael (Katie) Smith of Allen, Texas, a daughter Melaina Veiner of Valparaiso and two grandchildren Shannon and Brandon Smith of Allen, Texas.

He was employed as a Merchant Marine at the Hannah Marine Corporation. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the Calumet Masonic Lodge, the Orak Shrine and the Order of the Amaranth.

Funeral services, Calumet Masonic Lodge and Job’s Daughters officiating, is scheduled 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 22 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage. Cremation will be at Heritage Crematory in Portage.

Visitation is scheduled from 2-4 p.m. and from 6 until time of service Monday.
