Dumont “Bud” E. Loomis, of Chesterton, died Nov. 14, 2003 at VNA Horton
Hospice Center, Valparaiso. He was 76.
He was born Jan. 10, 1927 in New Carlisle, Ind. the son of Howard and
Elizabeth (Kugert) Loomis.
On May 20, 1951 at St. John’s Church in Chesterton, he married Gretchen
Vetter, who survives in Chesterton.
He is also survived by 2 daughters, Cheryl (George) Mathews of Miramar, Fla.
and Debra (Bob) Volk of Chesterton; 4 grandchildren, Adam (Kasia) Chandler
of Chesterton, Heather Chandler of Deerfield Beach, Fla., Natalie Volk of
West Lafayette and Drew Volk of Chesterton; a brother, Orphie Loomis of
LaPorte; a sister-in-law, Edith Loomis of LaPorte and many nieces and
nephews.
He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Norman Loomis and Howard
Loomis, Jr. and a sister, Catherine Bedenkop.
He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of
Chesterton Moose Lodge #1623. Succeeding his father-in-law Hans Vetter, he
was owner of Loomis Decorating Service for 40 years and an avid bass
fisherman.
Funeral services, Pastor Terry Rhine officiating, will be at 11 a.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 19 at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St. Chesterton.
Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at White-Love
Funeral Home.
Memorials may be given to the VNA Horton Hospice Center or the Westchester
Neighbors Food Pantry.
