Dorothy Ella Lamport Glawe dies at 99

Dorothy Ella Lamport Glawe, of Chesterton, died Sunday, December 21, 2003 at the waters of Duneland Health Care Center, Chesterton. She was 99.

She was born July 16, 1904 in Momence, Ill., the daughter of Andre and Carrie (Greenawalt) Lamport, who preceded her in death.

On July 5, 1929 in Chesterton, she married Sanford Hobart Glawe, who preceded her in death Jan. 3, 2002.

She is survived by a daughter, Dolores A. (Walter) Iwan of Chesterton and Carla J. (Joe) Callahan of Porter; 4 grandchildren, Pamela J. Callahan of Ariz.; Susan (Phil) Baugher of Chesterton, Penny Callahan of Chesterton and Tod J. Callahan of Porter; 3 great-grandchildren, Carrie (Brian) Bentley of Ariz., Ryan (Kelly) Mertens of Ariz. and Kathleen A. Baugher of Chesterton and 1 great-great grandchild, Madison Bentley of Ariz.

She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Bert (Pearl) Lamport and Fred (Lucille) Lamport and a sister, Lillybelle (Walter) Isaacson.

She was an area resident since 1911 and was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Chesterton. She was one of the first women to hire in at United States Steel during the start of WWII. She also worked at Arcadi Dress Factory in Chesterton and was a long-time member of the Rebekah Lodge in Chesterton.

Funeral services, Rev. Joann Kaiser officiating, are scheduled at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home. Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery.

Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.

Memorials may be made to either the Diabetes Association or to the Westchester Public Library.
