Charles L. Zane, Sr. dies at 73

Charles L. Zane Sr. of Porter, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003 at Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso. He was 73.

He was born Feb. 19, 1930 in Porter, the son of Charles B. and Lena (Stephens) Zane, who preceded him in death.

On Sept. 16, 1950 in Chesterton, he married Patricia Mary Beschinski, who preceded him in death on Jan. 11, 1997.

He is survived by 2 sons, Charles Zane and Shawn Zane, both of Porter; and 3 grandchildren, David, Steve and Trisha Zane.

He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Marion Wisemann and Ruby Buczkowski and a brother, Les Zane.

He was a life long resident and was employed as Superintendent of Martin Marriott Corporation. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was also a self-employed Gunsmith, a member of the National Rifle Association and the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping and was also a former pilot. He was a former Finance Officer for the American Legion.

Funeral services, Rev. Edward Mitchell officiating, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, Chesterton.
