To enhance ridership and attract new riders, the South Shore commuter line is offering free rides on all westbound weekend and off-peak weekday trains on Friday, Feb. 17, and Saturday, Feb. 18, the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District announced.

Riders will be responsible for paying applicable fares on their eastbound trips.

“We are excited to offer free rides on the South Shore Line,” NICTD General Manager Mike Noland said. “Our ride free week coincides with the Chicago Auto Show, which is a fantastic opportunity for new riders to try us out for free on the way to the show.”

Friday off-peak trains are those trains arriving in Chicago after 9:30 a.m.

Throughout 2016, the South Shore welcomed various groups to take advantage of free transportation on designated days. Keep up with the South Shore on social media for the official announcement and details of this special promotion.

The South Shore also offers reduced fares for seniors, active-duty military personnel, commuting students, infants, and passengers with disabilities on all trains year-round. Please remember up to three children under 14 years of age ride free with each parent or guardian on off-peak weekday and all weekend trains.
