Extra trains,
alcohol and bike restrictions have been announced on the South Shore
commuter line this weekend, during Taste of Chicago
Bikes will not be
permitted on South Shore trains this weekend, July 9-10. The South Shore
will need all available seats to provide service to passengers attending the
Taste of Chicago in Grant Park.
In addition,
alcohol will not be permitted on South Shore trains after 7:00 p.m. on
Friday, July 8; and all day on July 9-10. Passengers are reminded that glass
bottles are always prohibited on South Shore trains.
Extra Eastbound
Trains Saturday & Sunday
In addition to the
regular train schedule, the South Shore will provide extra eastbound trains
on:
* Saturday,
July 9, departing Millennium Station at 4:25 p.m., serving Van Buren St. at
4:28 p.m., running non-stop to Hegewisch and making all stops, terminating
in Michigan City.
* Sunday,
July 10, departing Millennium Station at 4:25 p.m.,
serving Van Buren St. at 6:03 p.m., running non-stop to Hegewisch and making
all stops, terminating in Michigan City.
These extra trains
will not serve Hudson Lake or South Bend.
As with all special
event dates passengers should anticipate an increased NICTD transit police
presence during the Taste of Chicago.
Passengers may
encounter crowded conditions on most trains over the next several days. The
South Shore will add cars to off-peak weekday and weekend trains where
possible and provide some extra service where manpower and equipment are
available.
In addition to this
weekend, bikes are not permitted during the following Chicago special
events:
* July 30-31,
during Lollapalooza.
* August
20-21, during Air & Water Show.
