The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) will hold a 30-day public comment period on its draft 2019-20 Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP).

The comment period will end on April 4.

The draft 2019-20 UPWP is a core transportation planning document required by the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) of metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) like NIRPC. The draft UPWP will be the approved work plan for MPO staff, identifying planning tasks and activities to be conducted over the next two years.

The draft UPWP is also a financial planning document linking resources and staff where they will be the most effective in responding to significant local and regional issues, and resolving area-wide problems.

“The draft UPWP continues to balance within the available resources, long and short-range planning and programming; special studies; data gathering, analysis and dissemination; travel demand modeling; public involvement; and program administration,” NIRPC said. “This includes describing other planning, administrative and program offerings of NIRPC as a council of governments.”

Comments may be submitted as follows:

* e-mail: comments@nirpc.org

* Phone: (219) 763-6060, ext. 160.

* USPS: NIRPC, 6100 Southport Road, Portage, IN 46368

All comments received during the 30-day public comment period will be compiled into a public comment report and responded to. This report will be made available to the public and distributed to the relevant NIRPC committees prior to any action on these items. It is anticipated that action will be taken at the April 10 meeting of the Technical Planning Committee, followed by the April 19 meeting of the NIRPC Commission.

Documents and information are available for review on NIRPC's website at www.nirpc.org
