Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore campground opens Friday

Back To Front Page

The 2018 camping season at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s Dunewood Campground starts on Friday, March 30 and runs through October 31.

This National Park Service campground features 53 conventional drive-in sites and 12 walk-in sites. There are no electric hookups, but modern restrooms and showers are available. All sites are $25.00 per night. Fees are reduced by 50% for holders of the federal Interagency Senior Access passes. Other amenities nearby include beach access to Lake Michigan, a gas station, convenience store, and South Shore Railroad station.

The campground features a self-registration, automated fee machine. This machine will take credit, debit and pre-paid gift cards, including only Visa, MasterCard and Discover, and allow self check-in 24 hours a day. Campers can pay for up to 14 days at once. No cash is accepted. Sites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

To prevent movement of the Emerald Ash Borer, which kills ash trees, purchase wood from one of several local sources near the campground rather than bringing it from home.

For information on Dunewood Campground and its regulations, contact the National Lakeshore’s information desk at (219) 395-1882 or check the park’s website at www.nps.gov/indu/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htm
