The South Shore commuter line will introduce a revised weekday train schedule on Wednesday, which includes a new morning westbound off-peak train, a new afternoon eastbound rush-hour train, and skip-stop service on several existing trains.

“The changes are designed to relieve overcrowding on certain trains, especially on our very popular off-peak service,” NICTD Chief Operating Officer Joe Black said in a statement released on Friday. “‘Skip-stop’ or limited stop service is being re-introduced to the railroad. It gives us the opportunity to shift demand and match riders with available seats.”

Thus, for example, new westbound Train 114 will depart 11th Street in Michigan City at 8:06 a.m. but will skip Ogden Dunes and Miller. It will be followed by westbound Train 14, which will skip the stations served by Train 114 and serve the stations skipped by Train 114.

Eastbound Train 11, departing Millennium Station at 3:58 p.m., will skip Hegewisch, Hammond, East Chicago, Gary/Chicago Airport, and Gary Metro Center. But it will be followed 12 minutes later by rush-hour Train 211, which will stop at the stations skipped by Train 11.

Changes are also being made to eastbound rush-hour Trains 215 and 115.

Black advised passengers to get acquainted with the new schedule, since several existing trains will have different stopping patterns. The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District invites passengers to visit its website at www.nictd.com

 for a copy of the new schedule. Copies will also be available from NICTD ticket agents.

The new westbound schedule at Dune Park Station:

*Train 102 will arrive at Dune Park Station at 4:23 a.m.

*Train 104 will arrive at 5:18 a.m.

*Train 106 will arrive at 6:02 a.m.

*Train 108, leaving 11th Street in Michigan City at 5:52 a.m., will skip Dune Park Station.

*Train 110 will arrive at 6:27 a.m.

*Train 12 will arrive at 6:41 a.m.

*Train 212 will arrive at 7:08 a.m.

*Train 114 will arrive at 8:22 a.m.

*Train 14, leaving South Bend Airport at 7:48 a.m., will skip Dune Park Station but arrive at Ogden Dunes Station at 9:02 a.m.

*Train 116 will arrive at 11:13 a.m.

*Train 18 will arrive at 1:05 p.m.

*Train 118 will arrive at 2:57 p.m.

*Train 20 will arrive at 4:55 p.m.

*Train 22 will arrive at 8:59 p.m.
