The staff of U.S.
Sen. Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., will host a Veterans History Project event from
10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at the Pines Village Retirement
Communities, 3303 Pines Village Circle in Valparaiso.
The Veterans
History Project is an effort by the Library of Congress to preserve the
historic experiences of those who served in the U.S. military by recording
their personal narratives and archiving them for future use by historians,
teachers, and the general public.
“The men and women
who courageously served our country have moving stories to share about their
service,” Donnelly said. “It is important that we record their statements so
that future generations have the opportunity to learn from their experiences
and appreciate the sacrifices they have made to protect our freedoms.”
Donnelly’s staff
and other Hoosier volunteers will be present to interview veterans. Donnelly
will not be present.
Area veterans are
encouraged to attend in order to have their stories recorded. Individuals in
the community who would like to volunteer to interview the veterans are also
welcome.
Veterans who want
to share their stories and volunteers who want to interview veterans should
RSVP to Donnelly’s office by contacting Ryan Wiegand at Ryan_Wiegand@donnelly.senate.gov
or by calling (317) 226-5555.
