Sign up begins Monday: Storytimes at library to begin in January

Children’s Storytimes will return to both branches of Westchester Public Library the week of Jan. 9.

Registration is necessary and begins on Monday, Jan. 2.

These storytimes help children and caregivers build early literacy skills through the Every Child Ready to Read program. By registering, children are committed to coming every week for a 7-week session, Jan. 9 to Feb. 24. Ę

At the Thomas Branch, Stories and Kicks for 4, 5, 6 will meet on Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m. Children ages 4-6 are invited to join Miss Pat for exciting stories, silly songs, pretending, dancing, clever crafts, and more.

On Wednesday mornings, there will be Baby Storytimes for babies age 9-24 months and their caregivers. There will be sessions at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Baby Storytime is an interactive, musical program for you and your baby. Build critical pre-reading skills in a fun, stimulating environment. Stay after storytime to socialize with other parents and play with toys.

Toddler Time will meet on Thursday and Friday mornings at 10 a.m. Join Miss Cyndi and Grandma Frankie for a very active, musical storytime session for 2-3-year-olds and their caregivers. ĘĘ

The Thomas Branch will also offer an evening storytime on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. This is a family program for all ages.

Miss Cindy invites moms, dads, little brothers, big sisters, and everyone in between for themed storytime sessions and a craft each week.

The Thomas Branch of WPL is located at 200 W. Indiana Ave. in Chesterton. Registration can be done in person, or by calling the library, 926-7696.

At the Hageman Branch, Toddler Time will meet on Monday mornings at 10 a.m., with a second class meeting at 11 a.m. Join Miss Cyndi and Grandma Frankie for a very active, musical storytime session for 2-3-year-olds and their caregivers.

Read, Sing, Create for 4-5 year-olds will meet Monday afternoons at 3 p.m. Join Miss Julia and Grandma Frankie for exciting stories, engaging songs, and learning to create in inventive ways. The program will use the “Every Child Ready to Read” principles each week.

On Tuesday mornings at the Hageman Branch, there will be two sessions of Play Date.ĘThe sessions will meet at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Play Date is an unstructured playtime for babies newborn to 24 months old (siblings welcome) and their parent or caregiver.

Tickle Tales, for babies 9-24 months, also takes place on Tuesdays at Hageman, with two sessions, one at 10 a.m. and one at 11 a.m.

Stories and Kicks for 4, 5, 6 will meet on Thursday afternoons at 3 p.m. Children ages 4-6 are invited to join Miss Pat for exciting stories, silly songs, pretending, dancing, clever crafts, and more.

Wee Wonders will meet on Fridays at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., and is intended for 2-3-year-olds. Wee Wonders includes hands-on exploration of weekly themes, led by Miss Julia. Classes include books, music, and a weekly project. Children will use their senses to experience the world around them through artistic and sensory projects.

The Hageman Branch of WPL is located at 100 Francis St. in Porter.

Registration for Hageman classes can be done in person at the library or by calling 926-9080.
