Newspaper ARCHIVEcom is Porter County Library newest resource

Porter County Public Library System, as part of its continuing mission to serve the needs of the community, would like to announce the addition of NewspaperARCHIVE.com

an interactive database designed for genealogical or historical research.

NewspaperARCHIVE.com, the largest historical newspaper database online, contains tens of millions of newspaper pages from 1759 to present. Every newspaper in the archive is fully searchable by keyword and date, making it easy for patrons to quickly explore historical content.

NewspaperARCHIVE.com is constantly updating their database with one newspaper page added every second - that’s about 2.5 million pages per month. This resource offers patrons interactive tools, a newly designed interface and many features such as user forums and a “My Archive” tool that enables subscribers to compile their own one-of-a-kind newspaper collection.

NewspaperARCHIVE.com and all PCPLS databases are accessible on computers at the branch libraries in Hebron, Kouts, Portage, South Haven and Valparaiso, just go to the Online Reference Resources page on the PCPLS website.

This resource is just one more way that PCPLS is meeting the information needs of patrons. Other online resources include the following:

• AllData provides online automotive diagnostic & repair information. 

• Ancestry Library is a subscription database of unique resources for genealogical and historical research.

• Antiques Reference Database contains thousands of antiques to assist in researching item history and evaluation.

• Books in Print is a bibliographic database and Reader's Advisory source of 5 million books, audio books and video titles. 

• Dun & Bradstreet is a directory of U.S. and international businesses. 

• Heritage Quest Online is a genealogy database of U.S. Federal Census Records and index of print resources and local histories. 

• INSPIRE and INSPIRE Kids allows you to search through electronic databases & magazines, encyclopedias and national newspapers to research current events, science, business, health, notable people, hobbies, and much more. 

• LearningExpress Library (Accessible from Home) is an interactive site providing sample academic or licensing tests with immediate scoring and answer explanations. (Accessible Remotely).

• Morningstar.com Library Edition (Accessible from Home through the PCPLS Website) is a valuable resource that will assist you with the entire investing process, from finding stocks and funds, evaluating them to seeing how they work together in a portfolio.

• NewspaperArchive.com - NewspaperARCHIVE contains tens of millions of searchable newspaper pages, dating as far back as the 1700s.  

• New England Ancestors.org is the oldest genealogical society in the nation and offers thousands of resources to help you find your New England roots. 

• ProQuest Obituaries (Accessible from Home through the PCPLS Website) provides more than 10 million obituaries and death notices in full-image format. Complete obituaries are pulled from national newspapers dating back as far as 1849, resources include: the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Defender, The New York Times, and more.

• Reference USA (Accessible from Home) provides American business information for 14 million U.S. businesses and 120 million U.S. households.

• TumbleBooks (Accessible from Home through the PCPLS Website) A collection of TumbleBooks (animated, talking picture books) TumblePuzzles. TumbleBooks are created from existing picture books and then animated and narrated.

• SIRS Researcher is a general reference database containing thousands of full-text articles and excerpts from The World Almanac® & Book of Facts & Maps of the World.
