The Westchester Public Library will reopen to the public on Monday, August 24.

The reopening follows an emergency deep cleaning Monday, Aug. 17 and subsequent closure of all buildings this week after two employees tested positive for COVID-19. The positive tests affected only the Thomas Branch, and the closure was done out of an abundance of caution, Library Director Lisa Stamm said.

“We deep-cleaned and took the week to hit pause and assess the situation, just as every organization and business must do in these new times. We feel optimistic about reopening for quick visits starting Monday, and look forward to beginning our outdoor programs the first week of September,” Stamm said this morning.

Both WPL branches, the Baugher Center, and the Westchester Township History Museum will reopen Monday. In-person outdoor programs that had been slated to start this week are tentatively scheduled to resume the week of Aug. 31. Patrons remain required to wear a mask at all WPL locations and limit their visits to under 30 minutes.

Patrons are encouraged to keep up with the latest Library updates on WPL’s Facebook or Twitter pages, or at wpl.lib.in.us.
