Clarification: WPL nonresident fees don't apply to County Library users

Back To Front Page

An article appearing in Monday’s Chesterton Tribune on Thursday’s meeting of the Westchester Public Library contained a paragraph describing the board’s decision to renew the annual fee for a non-resident library card at $175 per person per card. However, the article failed to clarify that the fee will only be charged to nonresidents who are not residents of a reciprocating borrowing library district or other Indiana library district.

As it is also stated in the WPL’s circulation policy, the Westchester Public Library participates in the Indiana Reciprocal Borrowing Program. Nonresidents who reside in a participating library district of the reciprocal borrowing program, such as the Porter County Public Library System, can obtain a reciprocal borrowing card as long as they are in good standing with their home library district and may borrow materials from the Westchester Public Library circulations free of charge.
