INVITATION FOR BID

Replacement of Railroad Bridge 54.73 over the Hobart Road, Gary, Indiana

The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) is seeking sealed bids from qualified contractors for the Replacement of Railroad Bridge 54.73 over the Hobart Road, Lake County, Gary, Indiana. All bids must meet NICTD’s material specification, as more fully described in the Technical Specifications, Plans and Drawings, dated February 22, 2010, of the Bid Packet.

A Pre-Bid meeting will be held to discuss the work in further detail and to answer any questions that the Contracts may have at 9:00 a.m., local time, Friday, February 26, 2010 at the worksite. Attendance is strongly recommended.

Bid Packets are to be requested by either fax or email. Your request should include the company name, address, phone/fax numbers, email address, the individual’s name to respond to and either a Federal Express or UPS account number that can be utilized for shipping and billing purposes. Contractors will only be provided one copy of the Bid Form Packet, which includes the Technical Specification in CD format. The contractor will be responsible for the printing of all documents with the exception of the Contract document.

Bids, one (1) original and three (3) copies shall be submitted in a sealed opaque envelope clearly marked: “Bid for Hobart Bridge” which shall be contained within an outer shipping envelope and received at:

Bids will be received not later that 2:30 p.m., local time, Friday, March 19, 2010, at which time they will be publicly opened and read aloud. Bids received after the above stated time and date will be returned to the sender unopened.

NICTD has established an overall Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Goal of ten (10) percent. Bidders shall make good faith efforts to meet or exceed the District’s Goal. Davis-Bacon Act requirements are relevant to this contract.

NICTD reserves the right to reject any and all bids and/or waive minor discrepancies, omissions, variances or irregularities in any bid, provided it is in the District’s best interest to do so. No bids can be withdrawn for a period of ninety (90) days after the bids are opened.
