Notice of Public
Hearing Concerning Extension of Designation of an Economic Revitalization
Area
Notice is hereby
given that on Monday, June 27, 2011, the Town Council (the “Council”) of the
Town of Burns Harbor, Porter County, Indiana, adopted a resolution (the
“Resolution”) re-declaring an area bounded on the south by state highway 12,
on the west by the western boundary of the Towns of Burns Harbor, on the
north by Lake Michigan, and on the east by the boundary of the Town of Burns
Harbor (the “Area”), as an Economic Revitalization Area pursuant to Indiana
Code § 6-1.1-12.1 et seq. (the “Act”). Owners of real and personal property
in the Area making application, subsequently approved by the Resolution of
the Council, may receive real property tax abatement and/or personal
property tax abatement pursuant to applicable procedures of the Act. A copy
of the Resolution including a more detailed description of the Area to be
re-declared as an Economic Revitalization Area is available to the general
public and can be inspected in the Office of the Porter County Assessor
located at 155 Indiana Avenue, Suite 204, Valparaiso, Indiana, 46383.
Pursuant to the
Act, the Council shall file a copy of the Notice with each taxing unit that
has authority to levy property taxes in the geographic area where the Area
is located. At least ten (10) days prior to the date of the Public Hearing,
such information shall be filed with the officers of the taxing units who
under Indiana Code § 6-1.1-17-5 are authorized to fix budgets, tax rates,
and tax levies in the Area.
A public hearing
(the “Public Hearing”) shall be held at the regular meeting of the Council,
Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at 7:00 P.M. at the Burns Harbor Town Hall
building located at 1240 North Boo Road, Burns Harbor, Indiana, 46304-9678.
At the Public Hearing, the Council will hear all remonstrances and
objections from interested parties regarding the Resolution. At the
conclusion of the Public Hearing, the Council may take final action
determining whether the qualifications for an Economic Revitalization Area
have been met, and the Council may confirm, modify and confirm, or rescind
the Resolution.
