Demolition of 851 Cyrus Street

The City of Valparaiso, Indiana, by and through its Board of Public Works and Safety, will receive sealed bids for the demolition of the single family residence and shed located at 851 Cyrus Street, Valparaiso, Indiana, until 9:30 a.m., December 10, 2009. All bids will be received by the City of Valparaiso Clerk-Treasurer located at 166 Lincolnway, Valparaiso, Indiana 46383. All bids will be opened and read aloud at the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting beginning at 10:00 a.m. that same day. All bids received after the above specified time and date will be returned to bidders unopened. These bids are consistent with the Porter County Superior Court’s October 26, 2009, Stipulation and Agreement of the Parties and Default Judgment as to Remaining Defendants permitting the City of Valparaiso to demolish the aforementioned single-family residence and shed.

Bids will be received on the basis of a lump sum. The work is to include all labor, materials, equipment, tools, appliances, transportation, all applicable taxes, permits and everything required for the complete performance and completion of the work in every detail. The scope of the work will involve the demolition of the single family residence and shed located at 851 Cyrus Street, Valparaiso, Indiana. Contractor will be responsible for hauling away any and all debris. All work to be completed by February 1, 2010.

Prior to the meeting all contractors shall conduct an on-site inspection of the project site on Monday, December 7, 2009 at 10 a.m., local prevailing time. Confirmation of the site inspection will be required.

Bidders must show experience in the demolition procedures needed for the type of facility to be removed. Bidders must use contractors currently registered, licensed and bonded for performing work within the City of Valparaiso. The successful bidder must obtain all appropriate permits before beginning work.

Existing utilities will have been disconnected by December 10, 2009. However, the existing sanitary service must be capped/plugged and a City inspection performed. Excavations or void left in excess of 1 foot in depth or deeper shall be backfilled with clean fill. All disturbed areas shall be graded and seeded.

All demolition, building material, concrete foundations, and walls, concrete slabs, and pads, pipping, cisterns, etc. shall be disposed of off-site at an approved land-fill. Tickets or receipts from an approved landfill shall be provided upon request for any material disposed of to a landfill.

In determining the lowest responsible bidder, the President of the Board of Public Works and Safety shall consider the Total Bid and may also consider all other relevant facts mentioned in the bid/proposal.

The Board of Public Works and Safety reserves the right to reject any and all bids or to waive any informalities in the bidding should the Board of Public Works and Safety deem it to be in the public’s best interest to do so.

The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) is seeking sealed competitive proposals from qualified firms for the maintenance of its Video Surveillance Cameras for its operations in Lake, Porter, LaPorte, St. Joseph Counties, Indiana and Cook County, Illinois. All proposals must meet NICTD’s specifications as further described in the Technical Specifications of the Proposal Packet.

Proposals must set forth full, accurate and complete information as required by the instructions in the proposal package. Failure to do so may result in rejection of a proposal.

NICTD’s overall Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) participation goal is ten percent (10) of the proposal price. Proposers are required to make good faith commitments to meet or exceed the District’s goal.

NICTD will award the Contract to the lowest responsive and responsible Proposer. NICTD reserves the right to reject any and all proposals and waive technical defects if, in its judgment, the interests of NICTD so require. NICTD reserves the right to accept any proposal within 90 days after the time of the opening of the proposal, during which time no proposal shall be withdrawn.
