Two dead in wrong way I-65 crash

Two persons were killed on Saturday when a wrong-way driver struck another vehicle on I-65 in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said.

The victims were identified as Anna R. Warner, 21, of Beaverville, Ill.; and Suhail Saif Suhail Humaid Alder, 20, of Indianapolis.

According to police, at 1:34 a.m. Saturday the ISP received a report of a wrong-way driver--subsequently identified as Warner--northbound in the southbound lanes of I-65 at the 247 mile marker, after merging onto I-65 from the wrong ramp at U.S. Highway 31. Approximately one minute later, Warnerís 2015 Kia crashed head on into Alderís 2015 Chevrolet Corvette, police said.

Alder was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lake County Coronerís Office, police said. Alder had a male passenger, who was transported to Franciscan Health Crown Point with non-life threatening injuries.

Warner was also transported to Franciscan Health, where she subsequently died of her injuries, police said.

All southbound lanes of I-65 were closed for seven hours, re-opening at 8:30 a.m.
