The Indiana State Department of Health contacted the Chesterton Tribune
on Friday to make the clarification in last week’s article “Local groups
spread the word on new state antismoking rules" that smoking will not be
permitted in any hotel or motel guest rooms under the state’s new smoking
ban.
Originally, the
law considered allowing smoking in designated smoking rooms but opted to
enforce a ban on all rooms in the final version. Hotels and motels are
treated like all other businesses not exempt from the ban and smoking is not
allowed within eight feet of their entrances.
